Search Engine Optimization Tutorial
Let's begin.
1. First and important thing to remind that search engines won't see images or any other graphics. Only plain text. Keep this in mind when optimizing your webpages.
2. Domain name. Select domainname that reflects the product/site you are promoting.
3. Key Words. Place some keywords on each page you are optimizing. For example keywords that fits this blog are for example "Free PHP hosting" and "Free hosting list" Some words are being ignored by search engines. Keep this in mind.
4. Meta tags. These tags are one of the most important thing when optimization webmaster.
Tags are placed between <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags. Two most important ones are <title> tag
and the "description" <meta> tag
5. <Title> Tag. The title tag should include the word you selected on step 3.
For this site "Free PHP & MySQL Hosting blog" include all key word's wanted.
6. <meta> keyword tag. Keyword tag should contain our key word phrase separated by comma.
For example <meta name="keywords" content="PHP, MySQL, web hosting, domain hosting, free tutorials, and so on">
Use capital letter only for acronyms (like SEO = Search Engine Optimization, DNS = Domain Name System)
Don't make the keyword list too long.
7. Place keywords in the content of the webpage.
The webpage should contain around 500 letters, more is better!
But don't fill out the pages with useles information or endles loop of keywords.
8. Host. Best host for SEO is one with dedicated IP address for your own site.
This is why some pages wont get high SE ranking because the IP address of the host has been blacklisted.
This is common on free host providers.
9. Validate HTML, use Alt Tags for images.
10. robots.txt File. This file is used to determine what shoulbe indexed from your page by search engines.
For example the following file would allow indexing for all other pages but not ones in folders cgi-bin and private:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /private/
